Reflections from Rachel
Dear Chelsea Day School Families,
Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year! I am thrilled to embark on this journey with you and your family. As I sit here in our quiet school building, memories from earlier this summer flood back. I spent days sorting through our garage, organizing and downsizing as my family readies for a new phase of life without young children. While discarding broken toys and donating old infant gear brought relief, parting with our stroller unexpectedly stirred deep emotions.
As many of you know, I have four children aged 5 to 10. Living in a city, our stroller was indispensable, taking us from grocery stores to doctor appointments, on vacations, and to our cherished playgrounds. It evolved from carrying one child to accommodating an extra seat, then a skateboard on the back, and finally all four children squeezed together, at times, after an exhausting outing—a memorable sight and a workout! Reflecting in the garage, I couldn’t help but smile through tears, reminiscing about the joyful and challenging moments our stroller witnessed. It reminded me of the resilience and growth we’ve experienced as a family, the changes still to come and the importance of the early childhood years.
Now, here in our beloved school building, I find myself pondering Chelsea Day School—an incredible community that has cultivated growth and cherished memories for 43 remarkable years. I eagerly anticipate the future of our school as we continue to build upon this rich legacy together. Early childhood is the most important time in the life of a family, and as I move out of this stage with my own family, I look forward to celebrating and supporting your child’s journey and sharing in the opportunities for growth and learning that await your family. Together, let’s embrace the new school year with optimism and excitement.
I look forward to welcoming you at the door in September and hearing about your summer stroller adventures.
