All About Zoom

We’re using Zoom to connect with our students. For security purposes, we have taken several precautions. Most importantly, every class is using their own meeting room with their own unique password.

HELP?!?
The first thing to do is REFRESH THE PAGE that has the button/link you’re using to connect.

On a Mac, the shortcut for that is to hold ⌘ (Cmd) and press the R key. If that doesn’t do it, do a “hard refresh” which the shortcut for that is to hold both the ⌘ Cmd and ⇧ Shift keys and press the R key.
On Windows, the shortcut for that is to hold Ctrl and press the R key. If that doesn’t do it, do a “hard refresh” which the shortcut for that is to hold both the Ctrl and ⇧ Shift keys and press the R key.

Zoom has an excellent Help Center! You can find all this info under “Resources” on their main site or just check out their FAQs and Video Tutorials by clicking these links. If you still have an issue, feel free to email info@chelseadayschool.org whenever needed.

What is Zoom?
Zoom Video Communications is a remote conferencing services company. It provides remote conferencing services that combines video conferencing, online meetings, chat, and mobile collaboration. It’s great!

What do I need to “zoom”?
Your child will need an internet connection and access to either a computer, tablet or smartphone. Setting up an account is easier on a computer but the choice is yours. There is more detailed information regarding system requirements on the Zoom Help Center.
On a computer? Login or SignUp then come back to this Chelsea Day School website when you’re ready to join a class.
On an iPad or smartphone? Search “zoom” in the app store. The iOS/ Android app is called “ZOOM Cloud Meetings.” Log in then come back to this Chelsea Day School website when you’re ready to join a class.

Make Your Child’s Zoom Profile!
Please take 5 minutes BEFORE YOUR FIRST CLASS MEETING to set up a free account at https://zoom.us/. You can use any email to register but please use your child’s name and image in the profile. This will help children see each other and feel connected through this experience. Once you are logged in, you can just come back either to the school homepage or your individual class site and click the button at the designated time and you will be beamed to the appropriate Zoom room.

Directions for Joining a Zoom Meeting:

  1. Make sure you’re signed in with Zoom on your computer or device.
  2. On this Chelsea Day School website, click the button of the class you would like to join.
  3. If you are on a computer, you may be asked to download “ZoomUsLauncher.zip” and then double-click it in order to join the meeting. Please do so!
  4. You will be asked if you want to “Join Audio by Computer” – please do so! Once you’re brought to the videoconferencing window, you’ll need to unmute yourself (lower left corner) so that we can hear you.
